Amoeball: Hot Single Cell Action

Loading...Amoeball is a game I made in my spare time over two years. It began as a simple learning experiment. I was teaching one of our artists, Steve, how to use physics in the development platform we use, Virtools. Within 45 minutes a simple volleyball game was completed, but we played the game itself for a good two hours after that. It was one of those rare times where you spend much more time playing a game than you did actually making it.
From there we decided to slap some art treatment on the game. I added a simple AI and refined the menu a little. The end result is what you see here. It seems simplistic–and really, it is–but give the game 30 minutes of your time playing against a friend. You might be surprised how deep some of the strategies run.

Fun, you know you could spend a few more hours on this and add a few things, like 4 player mode and different maps.

Wow, i just played this for about an hour, there are some really cool things you can do in this game. Also the AI is remarkably good in here, the first several rounds i got my ass whooped. Then i discovered i could hold down the up key and bounce higher.

You guys just lost yourself a customer/player. I opened up the website, tried to install the plugin, and it said I needed Microsoft Windows to use it. I am running Windows. Just because I’m using Opera and not Internet Explorer should NOT mean that I can’t play. And no, I will not run iexplore.exe to play a little game. I have morals, ya know :-P

Yay! I just beat the AI (an entire match, not just a set or a game) without using the up or down keys at all. :)

I’ve played it ridiculously much by now, and found some bugs: Three times the ball has disappeared off the stage. Once – and this was bizarre – the ball transformed into a cylinder (about twice as long as the ball).

I guess the ball transformed because it seems to be made of 2 circles so it has a bacteria-like shape…
