Line Rider Coming to Consoles!
A friend over at inXile pointed out that they’ve officially announced they’ve acquired the rights to bring Line Rider, the physics-based Flash sensation, to Wii and DS in spring 2007:
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Dec. 20, 2006 — Having already amassed a worldwide cult following on the internet, inXile entertainment announced today that it has acquired the rights to the hugely addictive ‘toy’ Line Riderâ„¢ and that the popular game will soon be available for both the Nintendo DSâ„¢ and Nintendo Wii.
This is huge. It’s a perfect example of compelling content taking on a life of its own. The press release has a great quote by the Slovenian creator, Bostjan Cadez: “Line Rider began its life as a project I did for illustration class…” Now here it is positioned to be the next big thing on DS. Congrats, Bostjan!

on December 19th, 2006 at 10:35 am
Why buy this?
It’s just some lines…
You can do nothing with this “game”
on December 19th, 2006 at 10:52 am
If there are some cool features, I’ll shurely buy it!
There are’nt any good games for Nintendo DS and now this!
I can’t wait until this will be sold in germany, too.

………..Oh dear oh dear
on December 19th, 2006 at 12:12 pm
what? you mention this but didn’t mention the fact that line rider 2 is out!!! yay!!!
on December 19th, 2006 at 3:33 pm
Would of been nice if it come out on Xbox 360’s Live Arcade but anyway I might pick it up for DS.
on December 19th, 2006 at 3:39 pm
why linerider on Wii? the whole point of it is to work long hours creating the track, and then sit and watch; this totally opposes the purpose of the ‘interactive/hyperactive’ Wii… i could totally see RedLynx’s Trial Bike game on Wii, seeing balancing is such a huge element of the game. just a thought though..
on December 19th, 2006 at 4:09 pm
I think they could absolutely make this into a great game.
Add some objectives and goals, maybe some unlockables (different sleighs and other things with different stats, like how much force is needed to knock the rider off and even stuff like friction) plus you could share levels online with the Wii and DS.
It’s very possible. :D
on December 19th, 2006 at 6:56 pm
I am buying this for sure. but why would you guys care?…
on December 19th, 2006 at 9:32 pm
if you bought us a copy we will care.

what? you mention this but didn’t mention the fact that line rider 2 is out!!! yay!!!
oh my days where is line rider 2?
on December 20th, 2006 at 4:32 am
It can be cool if it’s like armadillo run =P
on December 20th, 2006 at 7:16 am
This is what I’ve been saying for months… The DS needs a plethora of cheap ($4.99-$9.99) flash based games that can be sold in check out lines, budled with magazines, value meals, or other products, given away as promotions, etc. There is already a wealth of content out there, line rider is the best example, but there are a lot of great flash games that would translate very well to the DS’s stylus and touchscreen. I would definitely pony up $20 for Armadillo Run!

This is GREAT!!! Im asking for ds for christmas and this is the sort of thing ive been waiting for ds!!! YEYNESS!!!

on December 21st, 2006 at 2:23 pm
Man, the people who made line rider are such a bunch of sell-outs!
Line rider isn’t even that good!
on December 21st, 2006 at 4:59 pm
I mean that they are seriously milking it, I don’t even care anymore, i’m paying more attention to http://www.Datarealms.com !
on December 21st, 2006 at 5:04 pm
I agree with Beakless, Its fun but not that fun.
on December 21st, 2006 at 5:53 pm
Anyone know if this will work on PSP?
on December 21st, 2006 at 7:20 pm
Maybe not, PSP would never get any good games cept lumis
on December 22nd, 2006 at 6:46 am
Beakless is so right. Datarealms is a great page, their game Cortex Command is one of the best (free) games i’ve ever played!
on December 22nd, 2006 at 5:11 pm
@ Sinistar:
It won’t… maybe if they made it specifically for it, but me and a friend tried to get it to play using the built in flashplayer. I’ll bet in future firmwares it will work, But it won’t work on 3.02 OE-A…
PS: Dark_Alex wins.
on December 23rd, 2006 at 1:03 pm
Spamming your cortex command game, eh? :P
Fun anyway.
on December 24th, 2006 at 6:03 am
@Demetrius
Cortex Command ISN’T free. It’s an open development: they release builds, you test them. The Datarealms group said that CC will be shareware when it’s finished. They share the builds for no cost, while most of the companies don’t release builds at all, or make closed betas.
Talking about LineRider… apparently inXile bough the rights for Linerider, that’s why it isn’t online in the other website. It can be found in http://www.official-linerider.com, in the “Play” section. But there is no download O_o
on December 26th, 2006 at 12:40 am
OMG The official line rider (http://official-linerider.com/news.html) site put a link up to fun motion!
on December 27th, 2006 at 1:36 pm
i remember when this game first came out on deviantART.com its like i am watching it grow up!
on December 28th, 2006 at 8:45 pm
I really think that LineRider will be a good game fior a Nintendo DS because the DS has a touch screen and for the Wii, I think it would be really hard to build a good track with a Wii, Well its just my opinion, What do you guys think?
on December 28th, 2006 at 8:49 pm
But I think if LineRider is going to be a game, It should be sold for like 20 Dollars, because all it really is, is drawing lines, and making a penguin or what ever it is on a sled drive on the lines. Unless they add some objectives and goals, maybe some unlockables (different sleighs and other things with different stats, like how much force is needed to knock the rider off and even stuff like friction) Just like Dosou said.
on December 28th, 2006 at 8:52 pm
If you guys want to play the game go to http://www.official-linerider.com and click “Play” or click “Movies” to watch what other people have made.
on December 29th, 2006 at 11:00 am
@Kurrus
Thx kurrus, I didn’t know that…(don’t know how i could’ve missied it though xD) I hope DataRealms won’t put up with a too big price, cause i love their game..
on December 30th, 2006 at 8:19 am
Is it me, or has the physics world really given up on itself, i mean i haven’t seen a new project in months, do we have anything to look forward to, matt? Or is there really nothing to get excited about?
on December 30th, 2006 at 1:35 pm
@Breakless
Well Cortex Command build 11 has been released. It has working scroll bars and skeletons. I think that is enough to get excited :D
Also Switchball is in the making… I mean it’s being made into Duke Nukem Forever 2.
HL2: EP2 is coming next year, you always have some neat Worms games to play with, also lurking in teh internet is a game called “ragdoll battle” wich is in crappy/horrible demo stage (it’s going to be freewie).
And the here infamous N (ninja)…
Plus all the games already reviewed here in F-M, like Toribash.
on December 31st, 2006 at 6:24 am
Ahh, the only game i don’t know about that you mentioned there was ‘ragdoll battle’, i’m gonna go and google it!
thanks =]
on December 31st, 2006 at 6:49 am
I googled ”Ragdoll Battle” and didn’t find anything! Unless you meant the game ”Ragdoll Masters”….?
on December 31st, 2006 at 6:51 am
Yeah, i have the same problem, i think you DID mean ragdoll masters, if not, can you give us a link to the ragdoll battle page?
on January 2nd, 2007 at 6:22 am
you need to update with more physics games
on January 2nd, 2007 at 9:49 pm
Uh… http://www.toribash.com?
on January 3rd, 2007 at 3:05 pm
Sorry, it’s RAGDOLL FIGHTERS, but it was previously known as Ragdoll Battle. The website is http://www.rf.treesoft.dk/default.asp, you can download a demo in the downloads section.
on January 4th, 2007 at 12:35 am
You guys should check out walabers site! He’s got a Physics demo for the computer useing the Wii + Numchuck!
on January 5th, 2007 at 7:14 am
Ok, i downloaded that ragdoll fighters thing and, well, it’s not finished yet so i don’t want to say anything negative about it, though i am looking forward to it being completed somewhere in 2007
on January 5th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
(sigh) So, another year and we are all still going on about line rider eh? Fine, just don’t expect me to be there talking about it with you.
on January 6th, 2007 at 4:08 pm
Can we consider this site dead, inactive or on hiatus?
on January 6th, 2007 at 4:49 pm
The site isn’t dead–I just took some time away from (all) work over the holidays. I’m getting back to things now, but I also have some contract work and other priorities.
I’ve been working on Fun-Motion for the last few hours, although it’s all behind the scenes stuff. The site has been moved to a new server (it was really pushing up on our bandwidth quota at the old place). Hit a couple snags, but should be fixed soon.
on January 12th, 2007 at 8:29 am
Yo, the games going to have obvious new features.. especially for the wii, they may make it 3-D and add loads of little games onto it too!, cant wait to buy it for my DS
on February 11th, 2007 at 11:28 am
I was always saying that they should make a DS version for line rider and it’s really a perfect game for DS.
I agree with all of the people that are saying about all of the things that they could ad, but I think that they should put a freestyle mode in too.
Thanks, Also, I can’t wait ’till Spring Break to buy it for my DS
on June 20th, 2007 at 12:11 am
Just thought id mention this Line Rider was actually made by some Student at Uni for a project :S cant remember his name though and he wasnt even planning for this some people liked it and it was put on internet :)…….anyway great game…considering it was a Uni project………
